How We Hunt Spring Bear
Our usual method of hunting Black Bear is by stalking and glassing. We don't use baits. This is a truly wild fair-chase Hunt. We travel out from the Lodge everyday taking our 4X4's into the far corners of the territory. We'll walk old grown-over logging roads and glass old cuts. In spring the Bears will be feeding in well-watered areas where dandelion, clover and other greens grow. They'll also look for dead-fallen trees and stumping hoping to dig out grubs. Some days we might see 5 bears, somedays we might not see any Bears. But in the last 10 years our Hunter's success has been 100 %. Many Bear are over 7 Foot. And our Brown Phase Blacks range in colour from Dark Copper to Blonde. Spring is also a great time for Trout Fishing on our Home Lake. Fish off the dock or take a boat out any time.
Bear in Late Summer and Fall
Mid-August to the beginning of September is berry season and and on ripe south facing hillsides it's amazing the concentration of bears be get in a small area. Be prepared to see as many if not more Bears then we do in the Spring. We have good bear hunting during much of our Moose season but by the first week of October the Bears can get hard to find as they start to retreat for the winter. During the Spring and Fall there's always a chance to run into Wolves. |
