How We Hunt Moose in the Fall
Dawn and Dusk are primetime for Moose Hunting. Close to water or corridors between lakes and swampy areas are the best places. We have cut secret trails into these prime areas. There we call from stands and canoes. Our Moose Hunts all fall during the Rut. So, Calling can be very effective. The most common call for the hunt is that of a Rutting Cow but there are many calls and techniques. The focus of the Moose Hunt are the Cows. Cows and their calves establish home-areas near lake, bogs and swamps. During the Rut if we see a Cow Moose in one of these areas the chance is very good that a Bull is nearby. It is relatively easy to spot or have a chance at younger Bulls who are drawn to the Cows. But Big Bulls are smart and very careful to get a chance at them you need patience, persistance and a little luck. We sometimes stalk and glass for Moose but generally it is a still hunt near water and in our secret places. |
